Modern Girl to do?. Today a question can be asked what the modern girl is or what makes a girl modern? Is the modern girl considered to be light skin with long hair? Is the modern girl a woman who embraces her natural beauty with natural hair? Is the natural girl the woman with long weave? I dont think theres a definite answer on what makes a girl modern. As I have been reading the novel The Modern Girl around the World I see myself walking around the mall and looking at women and the way hey are dressed from the hair all the way to their shoes.I catch myself from looking at them as if Im trying to critique but more if what their wearing considered to be modern. Could what they are wearing be something marketed twenty years ago? Or even five years ago. I struggled with that answer a little bit. We as nonusers rely on fashion markets and the trends being marketed to give us an idea of whats being worn and what can be considered new. When I hear the term Bundle of Commodities I struggle with that phrase. I struggle with that phrase because I dont think there are bundles of commodities that define a womans modernity. I dont believe there is a true definition or answer to commodity defining a woman. A womans modernity is something that she defines on her own, something that she has to find within herself, something that makes her happy and omelet. Some women might need bundles of commodities to make them feel modern or feel special. There are others that can be simple and not need bundles of commodities to feel they are modern or beautiful. Some dont need long hair, or new fashioned clothes, or technological advancements and they will still like they have are as marketable as any woman that buys fancy clothes or adds advancements to their bodies. Technology changes rapidly in many different markets.

The French Expression Aller Is Integral

The French Expression Aller Is Integral The French verb aller, which means to go, is used in many French idiomatic expressions. Learn how to go fishing, get to the bottom of things, go away and more with this list of expressions with aller. Theres a good reason why so many expressions use aller; its one of the most common and important verbs in the French language. There are a few basics to keep in mind with aller.  First, its an irregular verb, so it doesnt follow typical conjugation patterns. You just have to memorize its many forms. Second, the very common passà © composà © tense of aller uses the auxiliary verb à ªtre. (Je suis allà © means  I went, I have gone). This means that the past participle in this instance, has to agree with the Je,  or the I thats speaking. So If a girl said that, the past participle would have an additional e at the end of the participle to indicate a feminine subject: Je suis  allà ©e.   Another important peculiarity of aller is its use in constructing the near future. Combine the present tense of  aller the infinitive of an action verb to make the near future, or  le futur proche. The construction means  to be going to or to be going to do something. The Beatles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

The Beatles - Essay Example The musical band’s increasingly stylish experimentation included a variety of genre covering folk-rock, baroque pop, Hindustani music and avant-garde music. Coming out as a skiffle group, the group first embraced the 1950s rock and roll and helped them pioneer the Merseybeat genre and their music style eventually started to expand to include a broad variety of pop music. Although the song â€Å"Yesterday† was not the first pop record to use orchestral strings, it arguably marked the group’s first recorded use of classical elements. The group continued to experiment on a series of arrangements to various effects. For instance, â€Å"She is Leaving Home† its word and music are filled with recorded musical melodrama. The innovativeness never seemed to stop for the Beatles. For instance, the songs â€Å"I Am the Walrus† and â€Å"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds: which has much influence of Indian classical music (Everett & Walter, pp. 45). The introducti on of the recorded music from the various instrument and the change of the fast beats to rather something sensational brought the change to the dancing style of the pop music. It became rather a piece of music to be listened to rather than be danced to. These are some of the variations of the music that was as a result of the Beatles constant innovation with experimentation using various ways of doing pop music. The Fab Four, while doing some of the concerts with their new genre of music such as â€Å"Revolver†.

Interviews about American Incomes Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Interviews about American Incomes - Assignment Example We usually attend all our classes, then either go home or somewhere with friends. Depends on where we are residents. I live in this state and therefore prefer to go home for a while, whereas others would probably grab a bite to eat since they don’t have a home here to go and eat. The dress code is liberal; not too liberal, but moderately liberal. You will not be mocked if you wish to wear your traditional dress because our country is open to different cultures and minorities and wishes to treat them well. On formal presentation days, it is recommended to dress better than the other days, but most people like to dress casually on the rest of the days. Sports are an important and widely accepted part of our society; there is football, basketball and ice hockey. You should definitely check that out if you want to get a feel of our culture. They are on November 6th if I am not wrong? Anonymous: Yes. There is always a buzz around the time of elections. Me: What is your view on the politics of your country? Are you leaning more towards the Democrats of the Republicans? Anonymous: I do cast my vote, and I am for Democracy, therefore I will probably vote for Obama. However, I am more for the social welfare of the economy than politics as a whole. Me: For a greener better society or something related to social classes? Anonymous: Both actually, but a better society would be a greener society I believe. Me: I am actually really interested in the scenario of classes in the US. If you ever have some extra time, we can discuss this in length. Anonymous: Happy to help. Interview #1: Me: Continuing our previous conversation, I was a little unclear about what comprises the concept of ‘class’ here in the US. Anonymous: Class is synonymous to socioeconomic status and there are three s tringent divides: lower middle and upper class. However, there are variations between the three as well.

A Case for Therapeutic Massage for Chronic Neck Pain

A Case for Therapeutic Massage for Chronic Neck Pain Holly Jackson The title of the article I chose is: Five-Week Outcomes From a Dosing Trial of Therapeutic Massage for Chronic Neck Pain. It was published in the Annals of Family Medicine in the March/April issue in 2014. I chose to use this article because it relates to the chief complaint of my Wednesday client and supports massage as a viable treatment option. I recognized a need to learn more about the condition in order to be a more competent massage therapist. In the United States, chronic neck pain is a common complaint and ranks high on the list of disabilities. Individuals who suffer often seek help from qualified massage therapists. Learning the ins and outs of the neck, including muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves is crucial for giving a quality massage. This knowledge, paired with the proper techniques, becomes an invaluable tool in the massage therapists tool belt for success, which will create lasting benefits for the client. Inconclusive results prior to this study have been a result of too many variables in the techniques and infrequency of treatments. The purpose of this study was to set a specific duration of treatment, with variance on the number of treatments received, to determine if massage therapy could help ease chronic neck pain. Study subjects had to meet a rigorous list of requirements: Adults aged 20 to 64 years with chronic nonspecific neck pain lasting at least 3 months exclud[ing] individuals whose neck pain had a pathologically identifiable cause, was complex, or was too mild, [had] potential contraindications for massage, [received] massage within the last 3 months, [and had not received] massage for neck pain within the last year. (Sherman, et al. 2014, p. 113) There were 228 participants chosen and individuals were randomly assigned to one of six groups. One of the groups was the control group where the participants were put on a wait list. Each of the groups contained 37 to 39 individuals. The study lasted 4 weeks, with final outcomes gathered in the fifth week over the phone by an individual who wasnt aware of group assignments. Besides the control group, which didnt receive massage, there were five groups with variances of massage ranging from 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week to 60 minutes 1, 2, or 3 times a week. Each of the groups had specific parameters for the treatments, which included range of motion assessment, hands-on check-in, massage applied directly to the neck, [and] addressing compensatory patterns (Sherman, et al. 2014). The results were measured using several point systems including patient satisfaction. The investigators found convincing results from the study groups. According to the study measurements, all of the groups showed improvement except for the control group, which did not receive massage. The measurements for neck pain intensity and neck disability index (or NDI), indicated that even though the 30-minute massage groups showed improvement in the measurements of the study, the most significant results came from the 60-minute massage groups, especially those groups receiving 3 massages per week. Studies that were conducted prior to this were inconclusive in their methods and findings. The significance of these findings cannot be understated. Massage is a viable, verified method of treating chronic neck pain with considerable measures of improvement and relief of symptoms when administered with regularity. The thoroughness of this study supports the use of therapeutic massage as a complementary treatment option. The measurements taken at the onset of the study showed that most people who suffer from chronic neck pain are not satisfied with conventional treatment options. With the finding of this study supporting therapeutic massage, the impact on the massage industry has the potential to grow exponentially. Massage has much more to offer than just feeling great, it has the ability to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. I believe this is a perfect prescription for repeat business with satisfied clients. References Sherman, K., Cook, A., Wellman, R., Hawkes, R., Kahn, J., Deyo, R., Cherkin, D. (2014). Police Officers Should Not Carry Guns Essay

There are a lot of arguments all around the world in this subject. Politicians, teachers, sociologists and psychologists declare their ideas and also they write some essays about if the polià §e officers should carry a gun or not. Many people suppose that police officers should carry their guns. Nowadays more and more crimes are being committed and police officers protect us from criminal behaviour. I will discuss whether police officers should be allowed to carry guns in this essay. I strongly insist that they should not be allowed to carry guns. There are some reasons to support my opinion. First of all, police officers actually are carrying a gun to protect the people. However, I have never been told that police officers saved people with their gun. Secondly, mostly, police officers can not their guns in a controlled way. We know from the news, some of police officers kill somebody with their guns.In the human rights, ‘the right to life’is the most important one that we have. When police officers kill somebody with their guns, the society starts to believe human life is not valued. In addition, police officers kill off 40 people with their guns between the years 2008 and 2009 in Turkey.Reasons of the killing them was ‘they did not Show their ideninty cards to police officer’. In the USA, the problem also not so different. Also, I sometimes hear the crime committed by the police officer. Even though the police officers are trained to usetheir gun in emergency, a tiny percentage of them committed murder with a gun when they were an excited state. They are actually the person before the police officer. Normaly, we need police officers not only for our security. Ther functions also about social aid and health, as it is written on the laws. Social aid and health about human rights but guns are completely the opposite of these good feelings and ideas. I do not think, somebody wants from help to pollice officer who has gun with him. That is a big fear, guns awe us. I read an article about search police officers did at a school to find in some kinds of drugs; however, they did not find any drugs. In addition, they threatened the students to kneel down with their guns. All students were frightened because they were pointign a gun at them. In spite of, they having to protect the people with their gun. Next, police officers use their guns againist criminals. But youngsters and children are  exposed to their guns almost everyday. So, they will tend to violonce. They can be new criminals of the future. Maybe they will elaborate on police officers’ guns, because guns are so common in the world today. They thought like that, ‘if it is not good or necessary, why police officers carry them?’. These kind of thought, so normal for a young person or a teenager. Other reason is, the state pay much Money to guns every year. If the money is used for education and social facilities, surely, the crime rate w ill drop year by year. So, that is better to money us efor these kind of activities. We must think about this question, ‘do we want to drop of crime rate or do want to punish someone who crimes?’. If the answer first I said, we have to pay money for education and the other social facilities. It is important to outline that the work of police was always in the centre of attention. There is a very serious deliberation about it, which is connected with factors, such as the rate of criminality and a psychological factor of carrying a weapon. The situation with the growth in the number of committed crimes is very notorious and dangerous. As a result, in society was formed a particular opinion about the work of police. Many people suppose that police officers should carry their guns because it can influence criminals, and the number of crimes will decrease. However, it is not a secret that in countries where police officers are obligated to carry guns the index of crimes is higher than in the UK. At the same time, there is a reasonable opinion that not carrying guns by police officers reduces the amount of violence. Last, it is a very widespread opinion among people that a gun is the tool, which can be a serious psychological weapon in the fight with criminality. It is believed that criminals can be afraid of armed police officers. However, many facts contradict this position because in the world there were many examples when crimes were committed by very brutish offenders, and these criminals were not stopped with guns. However, not carrying guns provide society with a positive example when police demonstrate that they are able to resolve any problem without using weapons. In conclusion, the author of the present essay wants to clarify the key points of the discussion. There is a widespread opinion in society that weapons are a remedy, which resolves many problems with criminality. At the same time, much data suggests that, in many cases, weapon is not able to stop a criminal. In addition, it is vital to emphasise that not carrying  guns is a good example for all people to be less violent. As you can see, there are many reasons not to be armed police officers.

The Place You Most Loved to Spend Time as a Child.

? Topic: The place you most loved to spend time as a child. Ma Vio's Kitchen Today, nineteen years after the passing of my grandmother, her kitchen looks the same with its walls in the same pastel orange and green she had painted it in so many years ago. The floral patterns that were done by my cousins and I using ochoes that she had cut in half and potatoes which she carved flowers from to make stamps that we gleefully dipped in containers of paint and placed on the wall hap-hazardly to form various patterns. I remembered her being so delighted in the end product that I don't think there was a neighbour, friend or visitor that my grandmother didn't boast to about her beautiful kitchen wall hat was so artfully decorated by her clearly talented grand children. I look at those walls to day and sometimes laugh at what persons out side of her family may have thought of her walls of art that anyone could have see were decorated by children all under the age of eleven. Walls that have been laquered to preserve what Ma Vio, as she was lovingly called by everyone, considered a ‘masterpiece that not even the most renowned of painters could have done with such perfection'. My fondest memories however, are not of the many different art projects that Ma Vio encouraged us into doing on her huge kitchen table but of the aromas drifting out of that little haven off of her livingroom. I remembered how she used to have these large bottles filled with all different types of homemade treats lined off on top of the kitchen counter†¦.. ed mangoes, stewed tamarind, tulum, benee balls, sugar cake, fudge you name it Ma Vio made it. Boy! Don't even get me started on her bread bin that never seemed to run out of mouth watering cakes and pastries†¦. coconut tarts, lemon bread, drops, peanut butter cookies and my favourite banana bread. Mmmhmmm †¦. I can smell it all now†¦. fresh out of the oven. Her pound cake and whole grain bread were what m y brother used to call ‘the bestest in all of Trinidad and Tobago', you couldn't find a bakery for miles with anything that good. You ever had homemade bread where you felt as if you had anything at all with it you'd spoil the taste? That's how everyone felt about Ma Vio's bread. It's good when accompanied by a filling but it's best when eaten by itself. Ma Vio's Kitchen smelled like christmas morning almost everyday as she was always busy making or baking something. Her kitchen was my own little ‘snack heaven' where everything that came from there seemed to taste extra good. By Havilanna Davidson

Barium essays

Barium essays Barium (BAR-i-em) is the fifty-sixth element on the periodic table. The solids melting point is 1340.6 degrees fahrenheit while its boiling point is 3446.6 degrees fahrenheit. Its density is 3.62 grams per cubic centimeter. The name barium came from the word barys, which means heavy in Greek. The element barium was first isolated by Sir Humphry Davy, a British chemist, in 1808. Davy founded it through the electrolysis of molten baryta. It is never found free in nature since it reacts with oxygen in the air (which forms (BaO)), water which forms (Ba(OH)2)), and hydrogen gas (which forms (H2)). Barium is most commonly found as the mineral barite (BaSO4) and witherite (BaCO3) and is primarily produced through the electrolysis of barium chloride (BaCl2). The element can combine and mix with many other elements including sulfate, zinc oxide, carbon, nitrate, chloride, peroxide, and titanate. Barium has many different uses, especially when combined with other things. For example, when you combine it with sulfate to make barium sulfate, you can use it as a filler for rubber, plastics and resins, or if you combine it with carbon, making it barium carbonate, you can use it to manufacture creamics and some types of glass. Stones made from impure barium sulfate glow when exposed to light and will glow in the dark for up to six years if intensely heated in the presence of charcoal. These stones, were discovered near Bologna, Italy in the early 1500s and were thought to possess magical properties. All barium compounds are poisonous, but barium sulfate can be safetly ingested since it doesnt dissolve in water. It is also a good absorber of X-rays and, when swallowed, can be used to produce X-ray images of the intestinal tract. Finally, you can use barium in making rubber and creating rat poison. ...

Compare and contrast Two Books( SMART POWER by Ted Gelan Carpenter and World Politics By Steven L. Spiegel, Jennifer Morrison..) - Essay Example Understandably though, Spiegel’s approach in the process of discussing the international relationship status of the US is focused upon the major issues that primarily involve the foreign policy of the country in terms of making a great impact on the field of worldwide systems accepted by the human society today. With the different collection of essays about the importance and influence of the country’s political status in the entirety of the human society, Spiegel was actually able to clearly depict the different issues that make the said situation much implicative in the kind of political culture that the other countries around the world are naturally dealing with at present. In the paragraphs that follow, an understanding on how these readings actually make a great implication on the different situations that afflict the American politics which in turn also affects the entire political system of the human society as well. The said issues are further subdivided to naturally give the readers a fine understanding as to how the authors of the book naturally considers POWER as an essential element that characterizes the capability of political systems to work for the best values of the human society at present. American politics is known to prime during the election period where the most common activities of the politicians become significantly visible to the public. The role of construction manager and project manager Essay

The role of construction manager and project manager - Essay Example On the other hand, a construction manager is charged with responsibilities similar to those of a project manager but there are certain distinct aspects in the role of the construction manager. Therefore, a construction manager is charged with the role of specifying project objectives and plans that include the delineation of scope. Thus, it the job of the construction manager to come up with strategies as to how the objectives of the construction work or project is to be carried out. This means that without the construction manager it is virtually impossible to run construction, as there is no distinct plan to be followed to completion of the work at hand. In addition, the manager sets the performance requirement so of the staff, as well as selects the participants of a project Project management is important, as it facilitates and ensures projects run smoothly, since it is the process charged with organizing, motivating, planning and control of resources. As such, I believe project management is the logical part of very project as it serves to hold together a project by having its objectives laid out, as without the objectives, there is no sense in having the project, where it has no goals to achieve. This implies that without project management, the whole deal of having a project is similar to having a building with no contract to have it occupied or even used. Project management is also important in that it acts as the mediatory aspect of having a project and owning it, in which case it is the job of the management to ensure that all issues involving the project reach both sides. This is implies that it is up to management to ensure that should there be a problem with project executioners, management acts as the intermediary to deliver the information to the owner, and the owner uses the management to deliver the solution or suggestion to the executor. This is similar to having project management act as a form of magistrate to resolve disputes between all si des involved, where the project manager is in charge of the management. In addition, I believe project management is the single most important cog in the wheel of a project where it directs all the activities of a project by eliminating confusion. Construction management is important in that it serves the central role of construction work, in which case nothing happens without the approval of management. As per the common description of construction management where the manager oversees the labour part of construction work, I believe that management focuses on the recruitment of workers (Wynn 2012). This implies that without construction management, there is plenty that cannot happen, where qualified members of staff in relation to construction cannot be hired. This translates to the lack of objectives, which the members of staff are supposed to accomplish, which a disaster waiting to happen, as without this administrative post, the meaning of construction is lost. With this in mind , construction workers are directionless, that is if they even are hired because there is no management to ensure that they get the job. Construction management is also important as it sets the budget based on the requirements on the ground as it has first-hand information on the requirements. This is because the management knows the amount of time required to conduct a given amount of work, as well as resources
